Glow-Up: My New Self Care Routine for 2019

The new year has been off to a great start! I spent January 1st with my family and helped my children set their own personal goals by creating their vision boards. I kicked off the MommyWeek 30-Day Self-Love Challenge where so many of you have been sharing your truths and taking your self-esteem and self-love to the next level. I’m also reaffirming my love of myself and making sure that I maintain all of the positive habits that I put in place last year.

Through doing the Self-Love Challenge and talking to friends, I recognize that most moms have the same concern that they don’t have much time for themselves. You all give a lot to your families, work, and everything else and then you don’t have time for self-care. The burnout is real! I’ll be honest here because I always share the real parts of mom life. I have dealt with burnout and not taking the time to take care for myself. It will catch up with you sooner or later, and you will pay for it in ways you didn’t expect, such as sadness, various health ailments, and even exhaustion. You cannot pour from an empty cup! I’ve had to learn this the hard way, so trust me that taking care of yourself is actually taking care of your family. When you are your best self, you can give 100% to others. For the past two years I’ve focused on my self-care, so today I’m going to share with you what my daily routine looks like for the new year for my ultimate “Glow-Up”!

Self Care Routine for 2019

• Journaling – Every morning after prayer and meditation I’m dedicated to journaling. Just like many of you are practicing a form of journaling for the Self-Love Challenge, I am as well and I will continue throughout the year. Sometimes you really have to get your thoughts out on paper and it helps you unpack what’s happening in your life. I make sure to focus on the positive in my journaling and it makes a complete difference in how I start my day. I share what I’m grateful for, a list of things that make me happy, and a list of things I need to work on. I then start my morning with a positive mindset.
• Taking Healthy Supplements – I take a variety of health supplements daily, but two I am making sure stay in rotation this year are Natrol Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies and Natrol Melatonin Gummies. I have a collection of her books that help me to maintain positivity and work through life’s ups and downs. I also enjoy listening to positive podcasts daily. Some of my favorites are “Hey, Girl.”, “Vibrant Happy Women,”, “Mom Is In Control,”, and “Therapy for Black Girls.”
