What I Really Want For Mother’s Day
As moms do we really get what we want for Mother’s Day or do we get what other’s want us to have? Mother’s Day gifts are really sweet. I love fresh flowers, new handbags, heartfelt cards and beautiful gestures from my family as they show their appreciation for me. But I don’t really care for gifts for Mother’s Day. The greatest gift I can get from my family is a day alone. Not because I want to be away from my family, I love spending time with them. But 8 hours of peace and quiet, doing absolutely nothing would be perfect.
No dishes to wash, food to cook, laundry to fold, just peace and quiet. Maybe I want to watch ratchet tv for an hour, then read a book. Just pray and meditate in silence. No one asking me where that thing is that they lost, or my husband asking for his socks. Mother’s Day should be a time for us to do absolutely nothing, if that’s what we want.
I believe in self care, and it’s completely necessary. Sometimes we need to just be alone, in silence. Have a moment to reflect, or even get bored to miss everyone. As a stay at home and homeschooling mom, my breaks are typically quick errands to the store or mall. I don’t actually get enough time to decompress before I have to go at life all over again.
During my 8 hours alone I’d like to get up and go get a pedicure, then have some Starbucks, and just walk through the mall. Not worry about emails that need to be returned or any work that has to get done. The entire day will be dedicated to relaxation.
Now I’ve put it out there that I want this fabulous day of alone time in solitude to happen. Is it really possible? I hope so!
What do you really want for Mother’s Day?

I am here for a FULL day of rest on Mother’s Day. All those other things (gifts, brunch, cards) are gravy but having to do nothing for a WHOLE day….oh that’s heavenly!
Happy Mother’s Day to you Ashley!

May 7, 2016 at 7:46 amLove this… my 17 yo asked if he could take me.to the Basquiat Bash at the High and just being invited out was cool but I didn’t really feel connected to going…. my 7 yo is clueless they didn’t make anything at school or afterschool which I used to look forward to. My fiance wanted to buy my a glorified coffee maker…. I was like ummmmmm you want to buy me something that is going to cause me to do something…. errrrrummmm no. I would like a day off to relax or even shop. So this morning I’m taking myself to my monthly massage.. mommy knows best.
