Mom Brain: It’s a Real Thing – Let’s Combat It!
Have you ever had those moments where you just feel foggy and can’t remember anything? Have difficulty focusing or trying to concentrate on a thing? Mom brain is real ladies! Most women think “mom brain” is limited to pregnancy and the postpartum period, but the reality is that it can last long after your children are babies and toddlers. My children are 12, 11, and 8 and I still deal with moments of fogginess and forgetfulness. Sometimes I just can’t find a thing I was looking for, and then I just forget what I was looking for all together! It’s not old age, because I’m just 35. There are many factors that contribute to this fogginess, but the good thing is that there are solutions!
Four Ways to Combat Mom Brain
Sleep – I know most moms don’t think they can get enough sleep. Our quality of rest and the amount of sleep we get definitely affects how we function during the day. We make time for everything else, so we must put things in order so that we can get to bed at a decent hour, to be our best selves the next day. I’ve taken Natrol Melatonin (and talked about it here on the blog) to help me to get back on a good sleep schedule so that I feel rested and re-energized to handle mom life.
Plan – Have you ever heard the saying “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”? As a mom it becomes kind of difficult to do things without a plan. Planning helps you to see what you have going on, so that you can accomplish your tasks. It also helps you to create a good routine that works for your family. You can use a digital planner or notepad to jot down your goals and what’s happening, but I’m an old school, pen and paper kind of girl myself.
Maintaining a Healthy Diet – It’s true that you are what you eat. The foods we eat can definitely contribute to our “mom brain”. Foods can actually make you tired, sluggish, and feel foggy and forgetful. Try to cut back on sugar and refined carbs, even though bread is so good! I removed refined carbs from my diet almost a year ago, and I can definitely tell the difference in how I feel! Increase your diet in anti-inflammatory foods such as berries, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and turmeric. These food items are staples in my diet.
Take Natrol Cognium – What is Natrol Cognium? It is a breakthrough brain health supplement that features a unique silk protein ingredient that is designed to keep your mind sharp and your memory strong. Natrol Cognium has been clinically proven to improve memory and concentration. It’s safe and stimulant free, and you’ll see the results in as little as four weeks after you begin taking it. I find when I take it, it can help me concentrate better so I can combat my “mom brain”!
