Five Tips for Moms to Survive Daylight Saving Time
It’s that time of year again……..Daylight Saving Time! I announce that with so much enthusiasm!! (Enter sarcasm here) Spring is actually one of my favorite seasons. I love the weather and both my daughter and I will be celebrating spring birthdays, so there is a lot to be excited about. Unfortunately, over the years I had grown to despise Daylight Saving Time. It comes around at the same time every single year, but it seems like we’re always easily thrown off by its arrival. After putting in all of the work to get into a good routine from the New Year, Daylight Saving comes through and tends to shake things up a bit. It becomes harder to get to bed on time and the kids are waking up earlier because our circadian clocks need to readjust. This can lead to most of us walking around in a zombie-like state during the day because we’re still exhausted from the night before.
Don’t worry though, there are solutions! With time and practice I’ve come up with ways to conquer the Daylight Saving Time adjustment so that you can keep your “New Year, New You” energy going. If you’ve eased into the New Year like many, you can also use Daylight Saving Time as a way to get into a good new routine. Today I’m sharing five simple tips to help keep you and your family on track for Daylight Saving Time and beyond.
Five Tips to Survive Daylight Savings Time
Eat Dinner Earlier – I admit, sometimes you will find my family eating dinner late. We have a busy schedule, and my oldest son has robotics practice several times a week until 9 pm. The practice shuffle makes it difficult to get in dinner early, but I’m committed to having dinner on the table at a decent hour when he’s not at practice so that the entire family can get to sleep earlier. Earlier dinner prepares you and your family for a good bedtime.
Create a Bedtime Routine for YOU – I know as moms we are always focused on bedtime routines for the kids. You know, bath, cozy pj’s, and a book. Have you ever thought about doing the same thing for yourself? I created a good bedtime routine that you can find HERE. It’s a great moment to get some self-care in and wind down from your day with relaxation to get a good night’s rest.
Take Natrol Melatonin – Because our circadian clocks get thrown off with Daylight Saving Time, sometimes we need some additional help resetting our sleep schedule. Natrol sent me their Natrol Melatonin Gummies (5mg) and Melatonin Fast Dissolve (3mg) to take in preparation for Daylight Saving Time. Natrol Melatonin is the #1 Melatonin brand in America! If you guys have been following me for a while, then you know that I swear by the benefits of Melatonin and utilizing it to get back on a good sleep schedule. Melatonin is a nighttime sleep aid that assists with occasional sleeplessness. It helps to establish normal sleep patterns to give you a more restful, relaxing sleep and in turn, better overall health!

Avoid Screens Before Bedtime – I know before bed many of us want to scroll Facebook or Instagram, but guess what?! It’s keeping you up at night! Looking at screens before bed will keep you awake longer. Choose a time to stop looking at your phone to prepare your body for restful sleep.
Listen to Sleep Stories or Practice Bedtime Meditation – Both sleep stories and bedtime meditation have been so helpful for me to fall asleep. After you take your Melatonin, try 10 minutes of guided meditation or a sleep story and you’ll be out like a light! Find sleep stories and guided meditations online or in your phones App Store.
I’m planning on taking control of Daylight Saving Time instead of allowing it to conquer me! With these tips and Natrol Melatonin you can create a routine to get a good night’s rest and in turn be more productive during the day.
