Winter Break at Museum of Science and Industry Chicago
Hands down, the Museum of Science and Industry is our favorite place to visit when I’m home in Chicago. We get there as soon as the doors open, and we stay the entire day until it’s closed. My children and I make sure to see every exhibit. It’s a day filled with learning, exploration and fun. MSI Chicago offers something for every age group of learners and covers topics such as aviation, astronomy, agriculture, chemistry, biology, geology, robotics, and even geography.
My children love robotics and we were excited during this visit to see the latest exhibit, Robot Revolution. Robot Revolution highlights some of the most innovative robots of our time.
Throughout the exhibit there is the opportunity to interact with robots in ways humans have never done before. Below my kids are watching soccer bots compete in a game.
This robot is controlled by iPad and had some serious dance moves.
Each exhibit offered a look into the world of robots and how they are vital in assisting us with multiple tasks in everyday life.
Besides the educational aspects, these robots were just a lot of fun to interact with.
In addition to the Robot Revolution at MSI, right now the museum is displaying it’s 74th annual Christmas Around the World and Holiday in Lights Exhibit.
On display are more than 50 12ft Christmas Tree’s decorated by volunteer’s from Chicago’s various ethnic communities. Each tree represents cultural and holiday traditions from a wide range of backgrounds. You can find trees that represent different countries and customs from around the world. The Holidays of Light, now in it’s 21st year highlights multicultural celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Diwali (a Hindu and Sikh festival), Kwanzaa (celebrated by African Americans), Ramadan (celebrated by Muslims), Hanukkah (a Jewish holiday),Visakha Puja Day (a Buddhist holiday), and St. Lucia Day (a Swedish tradition).
MSI Chicago is open daily, except on Christmas. If you’re in the Chicago area, or going to be visiting, hurry to see these exhibits as they close on January 3rd! The Robot Revolution isn’t included in museum entry, and timed entry tickets must be purchased separately. I highly recommend checking out all of the exhibits throughout the museum. If you’re planning a visit, head to the site at msichicago.org for more info!
