Walking Down Memory Lane:
Baby Sleep Tips for Nap Time
BabyCake just had a birthday a few weeks ago! I can’t believe how fast she’s growing. I’ve been looking at her baby pictures and reminiscing about when she was tiny. My oldest boys are 18 months apart, so when BabyCake was born, I had more than enough experience when it came to knowing what worked as a mom and the things that didn’t. One of the most common complaints of new moms is that they aren’t getting enough sleep, and their baby isn’t on a sleep schedule so it effects how and when mommy sleeps.
I remember as soon as I had something planned, that would often be the time that BabyCake fell asleep. Here are a few methods I used to get her to sleep well, no matter the location.
Teach Baby To Sleep Well At Home or On The Go
1. Create a consistent nap schedule at home – Most babies and toddlers sleep in the morning and then again in the afternoon. These naps are the most restorative. Babies will wake up happier after these naps, especially if you’re home for them. Even though babies may easily fall asleep in strollers or car seats, it’s not the best place to get rest. Do you feel rested after taking a quick nap sitting upright in a chair? Babies won’t feel 100% either after one! Remember to have your nap schedule at home in place for most days of the week.
2. Plan outings in between nap times – If you have your babies sleep schedule down, make sure to head out to run your errands or for a play-date in between that time frame. If you’re on the go, head home at least 20 minutes before your babies nap so that your routine isn’t rushed and baby can go down in a relaxed manner.
3. Bring your child’s favorite lovey on outings – When you head out, take your babies favorite blanket or stuffed animals. If she happens to take a nap on the go, she’ll have something familiar to hug or hold and this will make rest more relaxing. Also, download a few white noise apps to drown out any noise that will keep baby from relaxing.
4. Have a Snooze Shade – For all of those naps that happen in the car, because they will happen, get a snooze shade. This will block out any bright sunlight so that your baby can rest in a calm dim environment on the go.
5. Prepare the night before for outings the next day – Sometimes it’s no way to avoid a full busy day on the go. If you have plans, and you know you won’t be home for nap time, make sure to put your baby to bed earlier the night before. You’ll want your baby to have a full night of restful sleep, so that your day can go as smoothly as possible. Make sure to spend the next day getting back on your regular sleep schedule.

April 13, 2016 at 10:31 pmI am a middle child and I can say that I times things didn’t feel fair while growing up.I felt my older sister was special and loved more because she was the first born and the same for my younger sister cause well she was the baby so everything went her way cause she was well…the baby.
I never really considered or thought about all the wonderful characteristics. Of a middle child which I must say are spot on. I can definitely see now in my older years how being a middle child made me a stronger, more independent individual who is easy to work with.
