VOLTA by Cirque du Soleil in Atlanta
Cirque du Soleil is finally back under the Big Top in Atlanta at Atlantic Station with it’s newest production, VOLTA. I was invited out to enjoy the show last weekend, and it was the perfect date night activity.
VOLTA explores the themes of celebrating differences and unique qualities in a world where technology often isolates people from one another rather than freeing them. In today’s society, it definitely had an interesting and relevant theme.
The show included high flying stunts and acrobatics that you’re used to seeing from Cirque du Soliel including new mesmerizing bike tricks.
The name VOLTA refers to a sudden about-face, a change in emotion or idea often used in poetry. It also speaks to the jolt of energy delivered through the show.
“Energetic, urban and contemporary, VOLTA is a captivating voyage of discovery that showcases never-before-seen under the Big Top acrobatics in a visually striking world. Driven by a stirring melodic score and inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of street sports, VOLTA is a story of transformation. It is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and recognizing one’s own power to make it possible. Ultimate freedom comes with self-acceptance, and with the liberation of the judgement of others.”

The show definitely invoked a lot of emotions – amusement, excitement, a bit of sadness, and contentment. Certain parts of the show gave me some nostalgia from my childhood with the Double Dutch jumping and the costumes. I definitely got some 80’s vibes. It’s kid-friendly – my boys would have loved the bike tricks!
Perfect for a girls night out, and of course date night like my husband and I enjoyed.
