Tips to Prepare for Your Back to School Routine
It’s that time of year again! Most kids here in Georgia head back to school within the next two weeks. Even though my children do school work year round, we’ve had a light summer and will begin our school year back in September. After a summer of fun, kids need to ease back into their school routines so it won’t be a shock to them all at once. These tips will help your family to prepare for your back to school routine to ensure your children have a successful school year.
Bedtime – During the summer, most families are more relaxed with their bedtime schedule. About two weeks in advance, start your children back on an earlier bedtime routine. That way, when the first day of school comes around it’s not difficult for them to get to bed and wake up early to head back to the classroom. Kids will be better rested and ready to learn.
Prepare the night before – Get a headstart on the new day by setting out all clothes and having backpacks near the front door the night before. It’s not going to be a mad dash to find that extra sock or uniform shirt 10 minutes before your family needs to head out of the door.
Pre-made breakfast – Prepare easy morning breakfast recipes that your family can eat and grab quickly. I love muffins, quiche, healthy smoothies, and breakfast burritos made earlier or the night before.
Talk to your children – Kids have so much to say! When we really listen to them, and ask them what they are thinking we are able to better understand their feelings. Ask your children how they feel about the new school year. What are they looking forward to the most? Are there any activities they really want to participate in? Do they like their friends? We can find out so much and help them along the way.
One way that I’m preparing my children for our back to school routine is by heading over to PreK12 Plaza. There are tools available for parents, teachers, as well as students to help them along the way during the school year with math and language arts. They offer a full bilingual curriculum and my children can relate to the material offered. I love the quality educational materials provided that sparks the genius in every child.

July 30, 2015 at 6:46 pmLove when you say- Talk to your children. Sometimes we can fall into the routine of just giving them orders and doing our tasks around the house that we can forget to listen to their opinions, sitting down with them to just talk and spending enough time with them to make them feel we’re really there for them. Thanks for the tips.
