Three Home Hacks to Make Your Life Easier
I remember my first apartment back in college. My husband and I had just gotten married and it was a small one bedroom. I barely had to clean, because it was only us in and out from school and work, and if something went wrong I could easily call the maintenance man. Apartment living means that you can always call on someone else to come fix any plumbing issues when they go wrong. Fast forward to today and we live in a house with three rambunctious children. If something goes wrong, we have to fix it ourselves.
Plumbing problems are bound to happen with day to day living. We all use water and need to do the dishes, laundry, take showers and flush the toilets. Today I’m sharing a few home hacks to make your life easier and solve a few problems so you don’t have to call in a professional.
1. Vinegar & Baking Soda to unclog drains: For simple clogs where the water isn’t going down fast enough, simply mix a cup of vinegar with a half of cup of baking soda and pour it down your drain. Run hot water behind it. Repeat if necessary.
2. Put Lemon Peels in the Garbage Disposal: To keep your garbage disposal clean and smelling fresh, run it with a few lemons peels. Always run the water as you use your garbage disposal to keep the drain clear. This lemon peel hack is one of my favorites because the sink smells really fresh when you’re done.
3. Turn off your Water Supply – If you have a clogged toilet and it’s about to overflow, reach down on the side and turn the metal valve to close off the water supply. It’s a good idea to turn off the water supply in your entire home from time to time when water isn’t in use to save money as well.
If you have a tough clog, and all else fails, head to the store and pick up some Roto Rooter Gel Clog Remover! There has been so many time where I’ve gotten too much hair down my shower drain, and needed Roto Rooter ASAP. Their gel clog remover uses ingredients that will clear out hair, soap residue, and grease quickly. Roto Rooter has several products for all of your home plumbing needs including septic treatment.
I’m happy I can solve common plumbing problems around the house without asking my husband for help, and without calling in a professional. What are you go to home hacks?
