This week, a lot of kids are out of school due to weather related cancellations. What more appropriate to share than “The Best Educational Websites for Kids“?! I’ve homeschooled my kids all of their lives, so I am going to share a roundup of fun and educational sites that we use to supplement learning.
Starfall: Starfall is one of my favorite websites to teach early reading skills. It focuses on phonetic awareness and is appropriate for preschool to second grade. There is even an additional section titled “more” that offers some math skills.
PBS Kids: If your children watch PBS during the day, PBS Kids has educational activities featuring all of their favorite PBS Kids characters in one place. PBS Kids has appropriate activities for preschool to about fourth grade.
ABCya: ABCya focuses on improving math and language arts skills with educational computer games for children in Kindergarten to Fifth Grade.
National Geographic Kids: National Geographic Kids features the best in Natural History, Science and Nature. There are games, videos, pictures, and even activities you can do at home. It’s pretty much something for every age group on National Geographic Kids.
Brain Pop Jr: Brain Pop Jr has educational materials covering all subjects for Kindergarten to Third Grade. It features short, animated, educational material that’s aligned with the Common Core Standard.
Light Up Your Brain: Light Up Your Brain features audio books, brain teasers, educational games and printables for grades K-8th.
Cool Math: Cool Math is a website filled with math games and lessons. It’s best suited for students from grades 3rd to High School.
TIME for Kids: TIME for Kids is the TIME News Magazine equivalent for children. It features Science, Social Studies and Math information aligned with the Common Core Standard.
How Stuff Works: How Stuff Works is packed with Science, History, and Geography information. There are countless videos and articles to provide answers and factual info on How Stuff Works!
Crayola: Crayola has free printable coloring pages, craft ideas, lesson plans and a kids play zone.
With these educational resources you can easily supplement your child’s education if they happen to be home from school, after school, on the weekend, and for homeschool. Are you going to try any of my recommendations for The Best Educational Websites for Kids? Let’s connect! Leave a comment or find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @mommyweek #mommyweek.

January 29, 2014 at 7:34 pmAWESOME post. I will be book marking this. I heard of most but this is a great resource to have when I can’t remember. My son is not 2 yet, but next month I would like to get him on a more structured learning schedule.

One website I swear by is Khan Academy. My daughter was struggling in math, and unfortunately- she’s in the 5th grade, and learning algebra (which I was HORRIBLE at) so we always use KA. She went from a C- to an A in a matter of weeks after watching the tutorials for 20 minutes every day.
