Steps to Create a Night Time Self Care Routine
You guys have watched my morning routine on Instagram for a while now. I’m such a morning person! There’s nothing that compares for a mom than to wake up early to a quiet home and grab a few moments of peace before the chaos starts. My mornings are awesome, but they wouldn’t be possible if I didn’t have my night time practices in place! Daylight Saving Time is almost here plus March is Sleep Awareness Month. Sometimes Daylight Saving Time can throw off our schedules, as well as make it harder to get a good night’s rest because our circadian clock has been altered. Today I’m sharing some self care practices that you can put in place to create a night time self care routine.
Here’s what to do:
Me time – After the kids are in bed, carve out about 45 minutes to an hour that you can spend alone. Winding down from the day is a vital part in ensuring that our sleep is actually restful. I’m totally not “team no sleep” and I believe in mom’s getting their rest at night. Sleep affects our mood, productivity, and our health in general. If you want to succeed at something, get your rest! I know you might be saying “I have no extra time.” With lots of experience I’ve realized that we make time for what we want to do. Make yourself a priority, because remember my motto “We can’t be good to others if we aren’t good to ourselves.”
Unplug – In that time before actually sleeping, put your phone away and turn the TV off. Make this a time for unplugging from all devices. Extra time at night spent on our phones make it more difficult to fall asleep.
Aromatherapy & soothing sounds – Scents and sounds can relax us and affect our mood. Burn a nice candle or some frankincense. Put some of your favorite calming oil in the diffuser like lavender, rose, bergamont, ylang ylang or chamomile. I like to listen to nature sounds like waterfalls or ocean waves. There are several apps available for those.
Take care of you – Do something nice for yourself! Take a relaxing bath using bath salts with lavender, or get a nice bath bomb. Been meaning to give yourself a mud mask facial or pedicure? Schedule it into your night time self care routine! The more you practice the care of you, the better you’ll feel.
Natrol Melatonin – After you’ve made yourself feel relaxed, add Natrol Melatonin to your night time self care routine. If you have a hard time falling asleep, and staying asleep like I do, Natrol Melatonin fits the bill!
