Steps to a Tear Free Wash Day for Girls
Wash day in our house has been something dreaded for both BabyCake and I. Her curly hair texture is one that can dry out easily and become tangled, which equals a lot of tears in the detangling process. Over time I’ve had to develop a system that makes wash day easy on both her and I. With these steps our process is tear free and the result is easy to manage hair!
On our latest wash day I started with As I Am’s newest line for children, Born Curly. The Born Curly line is great for all hair types, and just right for kids from birth to 10 years old. The shampoos and conditioners are all no-tear formulas and gentle for little scalps. BabyCake used to cry a river if any water got near her eyes during hair washing.
STEPS:
1. First make sure your princesses neck is properly elevated at the sink. We wash hair at our kitchen sink, and I place a rolled up towel under BabyCake’s neck. Some people use pool noodles, and they do the same trick. My daughter is still tiny enough to fit on top of the kitchen counter easily. I begin the wash process with Aloe Shampoo & Wash. It has a really fresh smell and leaves hair squeaky clean and free of any product build up. It also doubles as a wash for bath time.
2. Next I gave her hair an extra wash with the Born Curly Avocado Shea Cowash. It has a wonderful vanilla smell and really softens all of my daughters curls.
3. After gently towel drying I sealed in the moisture of hair with the Nourishing Hair & Body Oil. It contains grapeseed oil, neem oil, and pomegranate oil. It makes hair shiny and reduces frizz.
4. Then I part BabyCake’s hair into four sections and apply Argan Leave-In Conditioner and Detangler. I use a wide tooth comb and start at the ends of the hair and work my way to the roots. This leave in makes her hair really soft and manageable. It smells wonderful as well!
5. Lastly I style her hair in twists or braids with the Rosemary Vanilla Twist Defining Smoothie and Argan Curl Defining Jelly. This week we just did a wash n’ go, and achieved the look with both products. Her curls were hydrated and defined.
Born Curly happens to be the only hair line for children with naturally curly hair that’s certified organic. They carry the NSF seal of approval, and the only hair product for kids to do so. That way you know each product is gentle and healthy to use on your child’s hair. Each contains oils and extracts that ensure your child’s hair won’t be overly dried out and hair will retain it’s natural moisture and shine. You can find the entire line of Born Curly products at your local beauty supplies and national retailers such as Sally’s, Walgreens, Target, Walmart and Rite-Aid.
What are some other techniques you use to make wash day a success for your curly kids?

September 20, 2016 at 7:36 amI’ve been wanting to find a product line gentle enough for Baby D that moisturizes her curls & keeps her scalp from getting irritated & itchy. I’ll be checking out Sally’s this weekend!
