Steps to a Healthy Night of Sleep
Earlier this summer I wrote about how the sleep problem in the US affects more than 4 million people in our country! As moms we keep late nights because that’s when everything is quiet, or we fall asleep but can’t stay that way. Today I’m going to share some tips that I’m going to put into practice to since my last post to help me get a healthy night’s sleep. Hopefully if you have problems getting to sleep, and staying that way, these shut-eye strategies should help!
Get Active Early – Getting a healthy night’s rest doesn’t begin right before bedtime. Try exercising early in the day to kick into gear your bodies natural rhythm that will help you actually feel sleepy at night. I make an attempt at getting a few miles in on the treadmill or stay really active with the kids during the day.
Get Comfortable – Sometimes our bodies need to be reminded that it’s time to go to sleep. Relax before bedtime with a cup of tea and a hot bath to help ease the transition from day to night.
SIGN OFF – This is one of my biggest problems! Did you know scrolling through your phone at bedtime actually keeps you awake?! The LED lights from your phone or tablet activates your brain and it makes it more difficult to fall asleep. Just say no to social media before bed and sign off at least one hour before it’s time to sleep.
Go Dark – This is actually one of the easiest methods for me to use to fall asleep and get a healthy night of rest. Turn out all of the lights and use curtains if you have to, for complete darkness. Darkness tells your body that it’s time to rest. Light during the night can make you feel like you’ve gotten enough rest and that it’s time to get up before your body is ready.
I’m excited to put some of these tips into practice because sleep is so vital to our ability to function on a daily basis and I want to get a healthy night of rest. I know it’s hard, but I will be signing off from social media at least one hour before bedtime. To learn more about getting a full night of uninterrupted sleep, visit wanttosleepmore.com!
