Ripley’s Aquarium Myrtle Beach
Before we began our drive back to Atlanta on our recent trip to South Carolina, we visited Ripley’s Aquarium Myrtle Beach. Ripley’s Aquarium is located in the Broadway at the Beach shopping center. It’s two levels filled with sea life, and interactive hands on exhibits.
The room on the first floor of the Aquarium features the new exhibit SWARM. SWARM studies the science behind schooling fish and other groups of sea creatures. They kids had fun having their hands fed on by a tiny school of fish. I did place my hand in for a few seconds, but I wasn’t thrilled with the feeling of a dozen tiny fish sucking at my skin.
The Rio Amazon exhibit featured fish native to the Amazon Rainforest. Did you know there are two different types of Piranhas? No? Me either! There are carnivorous and herbivorous Piranhas. The herbivores can grow up to 40lbs!
On the lower level of the Aquarium you can find the Systems Controls. It shows kids how the Aquarium is built behind the scenes and how water travels throughout the building.
Downstairs you can also check out the Dangerous Reef exhibit. You step onto a 340 foot glide path that allows you to leisurely take in all of the underwater view. There were a ton of sharks to check out in this tank.
Other Fun Exhibits in Ripley’s Aquarium Myrtle Beach:
Rainbow Rock
Discovery Center
Living Gallery
Ray Bay
Friendship Flats
The kids really enjoyed their time at the Aquarium!

September 18, 2014 at 11:53 amAquarium trips are always fun! We didn’t get to do much site seeing when we went to NY, but we were able to visit an aquarium (get this, FREE of charge due to a special promotion that day) when we went to Coney Island. Glad the kids had a new, fun place to explore!

September 18, 2014 at 12:24 pmI’ve only been to New York once, pre-kids. Sounds like we need to plan a trip back. I always wanted to check out Coney Island 🙂
