Outdoor Exploration: Nature Walk with Kids
+ Sesame Street Giveaway
Last week I shared with you some fun ideas on how to spend screen free time with your children. It’s so important for us to get outside as a family and enjoy one another without the distraction of electronic devices. Today I’m sharing an activity that my family loves to do when we want some fresh air…..nature walks! Nature walks are not only an educational activity, but it teaches us to appreciate the environment and respect the habitats of insects and animals.
Nature walks are great because you don’t have to be in any specific location to go on one. You can head right outside in your backyard and begin your discovery. My family happened to be traveling when we went on our nature walk, so it was a real treat to discover flowers, observe bodies of water, and a few animals.
Spending time exploring the outdoors helps to spark creativity and is extremely relaxing. It’s a great idea for your kids to bring a pen and paper to jot down what they’ve seen along the way, or to create a nature journal to keep track of their findings. Make sure to talk to your kids about what they saw along the way and how they feel about nature.
In addition to getting out into nature, watching Sesame Street on HBO on Saturday mornings is a way my family enjoys spending time together. The Emmy Award Winning iconic children’s show that I grew up watching has joined forces with HBO for an all new season. Check out a clip below of Abby Cadabby in her sweet fairy garden.
To get your family excited about getting outside this spring, I’m giving away a Sesame Street Spring Prize Pack: planter set and herb kit!
*Prize fulfillment typically takes 4-6 weeks from the end of contest.

March 30, 2016 at 2:43 pmWe live in the woods at the north end of Lake Lanier across the lake from the 1996 Olympic rowing venue. So going “down” to our dock is very easy but the hike back to our house is a real hike up! There is always wildlife & wildflowers that are great. I just cant handle the dreaded spiderwebs & snakes out in the summer time so I always look forward to getting out of the woods to go Braves & Falcon games, the SEC championship & Peach Bowl games & definitely excited to be taking our 2 yr old to her 1st hawks game this Friday 4-1-16 (april fool’s day) since our 4yo is already a Hawks fan! We love living so close to all Atlanta has to offer because sometimes I feel that we are already to “deep in the woods” & just need to getaway from nature for a weekend 🙂
