The Museum of Science and Industry Chicago
If you’ve been following me on social media, then you have seen some pics from our trip here in Chicago. Myself and the kids are having a blast! Yesterday we went to our favorite museum…. The Museum of Science and Industry! No trip of ours to Chicago is complete without a visit there. It’s filled with fun hands on activities, and interactive science exhibits. It’s actually the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere.
I want you guys to know how awesome the museum is as well, so today I’m sharing 20 Reasons to Visit the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago!
1. The new Numbers in Nature Mirror Maze teaches children about mathematical patterns in the natural world. (Numbers in Nature is free, but requires a timed entry ticket)
2. At the end of the Numbers in Nature Mirror Maze children will learn about symmetry, ratios & proportions, and patterns in the human body.
3. In the Farm Tech exhibit, kids will learn about modern day agriculture, chemistry, genetics, and engineering. They will leave with a better understanding of how food goes from farm to table.
4. The Idea Factory is perfect for children under 10 and allows them to explore shapes, colors, light, magnetism, water and air.
5. The Toy Maker 3000 exhibit shows children how toys are manufactured and you can even purchase your own toy, watch it being built, and take it home to keep.
6. The Toy Maker 3000 exhibit also features three cool robots that talk, draw, and dance.
7. Who doesn’t love baby chicks?! In the hatchery kids will learn all about genetics, how DNA works and check out baby chicks come out of their egg shells.
8. Science Storms is our favorite exhibit! You’ll learn all about lightning, fire, tornadoes, avalanches, tsunamis, sunlight and atoms in motion.
9. The You! Experience is an interactive exhibit you won’t want to miss that celebrates life.
10. The Swiss Jolly Ball is a classic pinball machine also known as a “flipper.” It stands more than 7 feet high, 15 feet wide and 5 feet deep. The Guinness Book of World Records named it the largest flipper machine!
11. Ships Through the Ages features over 50 famous ship models used for war, passenger transportation and distribution. Perfect for a history lesson!
12. In the Henry Crown Space Center kids can land their own Mars Rover and learn about rockets, satellites, and probes.
13. Fast Forward explores the innovative ways our future is being shaped through immersive multimedia displays.
14. Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle is what every little girls dreams are made of! This hand crafted dollhouse was completed in 1935 by silent film star, Colleen Moore and has been in the museum since 1941.
15. The Coal Mine has always been one of my favorite exhibits, and has been there since 1933. Head down in a real mine shaft to learn about methane gas and methods of mining coal.
16. You can climb on board the U-505 Submarine which is the only German Submarine n the United States as well as a national memorial to the 55,000 American sailors who gave their lives on the high seas in the two World Wars.
17. The Transportation Gallery is filled with planes, trains, & automobiles! Climb aboard a real United Air 727 and the engine of the Empire State Express 999, which was the first machine to break the 100 mph barrier!
18. The THINK exhibit encourages us to ponder the worlds major scientific and technical advances made over the last 100 years.
19. The Whispering Gallery will teach children how sound travels across a room and demonstrates the wonders of sound wave communication.
20. Opening on May 21st you will not want to miss the Robot Revolution! The Robot Revolution exhibit will explore robots roles in our society using 40 of the most innovative robots on the planet.
