Mom Life Doesn’t Quit During a Crisis
The past two weeks have been a complete whirlwind. If you follow me on social media, then you know on this day two weeks ago I had to rush my son to the hospital. Things started out like a regular day. We had breakfast and planned to ease into school work, but I knew something was off with my middle son. I called his neurologist and waited for a call back on what our next steps should be. They recommended I bring him into the ER to be checked out. I didn’t know in that moment I would be making the hospital my home for the next six days.
My son suffered from complications and side effects from his epilepsy medication. He was diagnosed with epilepsy as a toddler. Clearly the medications are very strong, and he began having adverse side effects from a specific medication that didn’t agree with his body. We spent two days in the pediatric ICU, and four days on a regular floor in the hospital working on his recovery.
We’re so grateful that today he is doing amazing and has surpassed what doctors thought his recovery time would be.
Once we were released from the hospital, I was hoping to slowly ease back into mom life. Maybe have a few days to decompress. No such thing happened! My husband and I don’t have family nearby that can step in when I need some help, so I didn’t get any days off. I was thrust right back into the reality of mom life. Thankfully I had HealthPlan USA to help make some of my tasks easier after our hospital stay. We had immediate follow up doctor appointments and prescriptions to pick up. HealthPlan USA offers prescription drug discounts for the whole family, and health advocate solutions which were much needed when navigating setting up my sons therapy appointments. I also have to make sure I’m caring for myself, so I’m happy to know that I have access to medical professionals using HealthPlan USA’s telehealth services right on my phone.
HealthPlan USA, a member-based organization, is a benefits program providing significant discounts on healthcare services. Services include telehealth, dental discounts, pharmaceutical discounts, vision discounts, and healthcare advocacy for only $16.48 a month per household.
