Macy’s Heart of Haiti
Are you looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift for the mom in your life, or even as a gift to yourself? Macy’s sells unique hand made home décor items from artisans in Haiti. If you recall, in 2010 Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake that was 7.0 on the Richter Scale. It left more than 250,000 people dead, over 300,000 injured, and 1 million or more homeless. The citizens of Haiti have began to rebuild, but still have a long way to go.
In 2010, Heart of Haiti as well as Rwanda Path to Peace was launched by social entrepreneur Willa Shalit, Macy’s and the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. This partnership was started to help artisans overcome poverty and rebuild their community. The average Haitian’s annual income is only $400 a year. Most of us couldn’t even imagine surviving a week off of that as a salary or way to feed our families. Out of a population of over 10 million people, Haiti has 400,000 artisans who rely solely on creating beautiful, unique hand crafted goods as their source of income. A purchase from Macy’s Heart of Haiti line is a gift that gives hope.
From each Heart of Haiti purchase made at Macy’s, Haitian artisans receive 50% of the proceeds from the wholesale price. I love all of the pieces in the collection and look forward to adding more of them, like this beautiful serve ware to my home décor.
You can find Heart of Haiti products in Macy’s stores at these locations: Herald Square, Brooklyn Downtown, Metro Center, State Street, Northland Center, Seattle Downtown, Portland Downtown, San Francisco, Biltmore Fashion Park, South Coast Plaza Home, Mission Valley Home, Dallas Galleria, Lenox Square Mall, and Dadeland.
This Mother’s Day or anytime, if you’re looking for gifts that give hope, give back with a gift from Macys Heart of Haiti! Love this initiative? Let Heart of Haiti know your thoughts on social media on Facebook and Twitter.
