Johnsonville Firehouse Challenge
When the kids and I are out and about in the city, we always see firemen at the grocery store. The kids ask me why the firemen are shopping for groceries, and I let them know “They have to eat too!” Firemen work long hours and basically live at the firehouse while they are on duty. The firehouse becomes a home away from home, and the firemen are known for whipping up delicious dishes to feed the entire crew.
Yesterday in Atlanta, at Station No. 19 in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood, Johnsonville hosted it’s Firehouse Challenge! Two Atlanta fire stations came together for a cook-off using Johnsonville’s sausages. It was a perfect Fall day for an outdoor cook off!
Station No. 30 created a Pumpkin Spice Sausage Stew.
Station No. 19 created a Sausage and Squash Stew.
This event was open to the public, so people in the neighborhood were encouraged to walk up and taste what each station had to offer.
V-103 Atlanta’s media personalities Jared-J and Teddy were also in attendance broadcasting live as well as hosting giveaways.
I picked up cute firemen hats for the kids since they didn’t join me at this event.
Both firehouses did a great job, and Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant was there as one of the special guest judges.
Everyone was encouraged to place their spoons in a large bowl as a way to vote for the winner. The clear choice was Station No 30’s Pumpkin Spice Sausage Stew!
They went back to their firehouse with this cool trophy plus bragging rights of having the best stew among the fire stations!
Overall, it was a fun day, but the best part was that Johnsonville donated $5,000 to the City of Atlanta fire stations in appreciation of their hard work and daily sacrifice.
