Georgia Aquarium 10 Year Anniversary
+ New Sea Lions
Wow, I can’t believe the Georgia Aquarium has been in Atlanta for ten years! I remember my families first trip to the aquarium. My oldest son, who is now 10 years old was a newborn and in a baby carrier. My mom had come to visit in February of 2006 and we took our first trip to the Georgia Aquarium. I’ve visited the aquarium countless times since then, but our first visit always stands out in my mind. I even felt a little nostalgia visiting the aquarium last week as I told my son about his first visit when he was just a baby.
With time, the aquarium has been ever evolving. There are a lot of new things happening like the California sea lions! The Sun Trust Pier 225 Gallery has been converted into a new home for a few cute sea lions. The California sea lion experience officially opens to the public on March 31st. This week at the aquarium you can view an ongoing training session with the sea lions, and after the 31st you’ll be able to check out educational sessions to learn more about these aquatic mammals and their habitat. We were able to get a look at the sea lions last week and they were sooo cute!
Also recently renovated at the aquarium is the 4D Funbelievable Theater. The theater has had some state of the art upgrades and will offer four shows throughout the year. The first show in the new theater is an adapted version of the movie Happy Feet. We really had a fun time in the 4D theater. The kids enjoyed the wind and water elements, and there was lots of bubble fun as well. Movies run in the 4D Funbelievable Theater hourly.
Lastly the Georgia Aquarium will debut a new dolphin experience, the AT&T Dolphin Celebration on March 31st. For the past five years the aquariums dolphins have done theatrical shows called Dolphin Tales, but now patrons will leave with a better understanding of dolphins and their care. Bottle nose dolphins are amazing animals so be sure to check out the newest Dolphin Celebration to learn more about the animals and the special relationships they have developed with the Georgia Aquarium trainers.
With all of the new debuts, shows, and openings at the aquarium, spring is the perfect time to visit! To learn more, for hours, and tickets visit GeorgiaAquarium.org!
