Five Things A Young Writer Needs to Be Creative
As an unschool mom I believe in supporting my children on whatever learning path they decide on. With that support they feel confident enough to go after their dreams at a young age. A while back Menaal expressed to me that she wanted to write a book. Seems like a big feat for a 12 year old, but I want to give her the tools she needs to see it through. She loves to read, and goes through library books at warp speed, so I knew she would be up for the challenge. A few months ago I decided to enroll her in weekly creative writing classes. That way she could develop her skills and get practice in before she started her manuscript. She wants to write a book that speaks to other preteens and teens like her, so I’m excited to help her on this path!
Every creative writer needs a few things to help their creative juices flow! So I headed to Walmart to grab my daughter a few things for Back to School to keep her inspired on her journey. I love shopping at Walmart because they have everything she needs without hurting my pockets! It’s so important during these times that we count every penny. Plus their Back to School gear is current, stylish, and cool!
Here are the things I can find at Walmart for Back to School that every young writer needs to be creative:
1. Inspiring folders and notebooks – I LOVE the selection of inspiring notebooks and folders that Walmart has for students. The positive words and mantras will keep my daughter inspired as she pens words for her new book.
2. Variety of writing tools – I know people write less and spend more time on laptops and tablets, but it’s nothing like putting a pen to paper when writing a book. The variety of pens and pencils at Walmart are not only functional, but they are also cute.
3. Cool clothes – When you look good, you feel good! Walmart has the cutest outfits for kids for Back to School and trends kids love.
4. Electronics – My daughter jots down ideas in her notebooks, but she’s actually working on her book on the computer. Walmart has a variety of computers, Chromebooks, laptops, tablets, and accessories that students need to be successful for the year.
5. Hardware – Can you write without a dedicated space?! I don’t think so! Desks and chairs are a necessity. You can find desks, chairs and whatever else your student needs for a comfortable space that fits their style to get their work done.
My daughters dream is to write her first book this year! She told me she has to get it done at 12, because writing a book at 13 just isn’t as impressive. That made me laugh out loud! It’s still very impressive either way at any age. I love supporting my kids educational goals and helping them carve out their path for the future. Shopping at Walmart gives me one less thing to worry about because I don’t have to stress over the costs, and we love everything they have. If you’re currently shopping for Back to School gear for your children, be sure to head to a Walmart location or Walmart.com!
