Family Travel Tips You Need
Before Your Next Vacation
My family has traveled every month this year. In this time I’ve come up with tried and true Family Travel Tips You Need Before Your Next Vacation! Vacation is a time to relax, so you want to make sure these tiny details are attended to so you can spend more time doing what’s most important…….enjoying time with your family!
1. Location – Is your travel destination kid friendly or is it known for it’s nightlife? You want to make sure to do your research and pick a travel destination that has safe and fun family friendly options. Some of my favorite places to go with family have been South Walton, FL and Kiawah Island, SC.
2. Timing – Did you know it’s more cost effective to travel during the week? Hotel’s offer the best rates when staying Monday – Thursday. When you book your stay for weekend travel, those prices tend to go up.
3. Pack Light – I know this is hard for moms, and it’s especially hard for me because I’m never too sure about what I’m going to wear once we arrive at a destination. It’s better to pack light because you will most likely bring some things back home with you. It never fails that my children want to buy souvenirs and I always find a cute dress on vacation that just needs to be in my closet! I use these nifty space saver bags to make more room inside our luggage.
4. Label Kids Clothes – Separate and label your children’s clothes for each day of the week that you will be traveling. This way, children can just pull their clothing out and get dressed on their own without a lot of fuss.
5. Book Rooms with a Kitchen – On vacation, eating out can add up quickly! I always book a room with a kitchen or at least a kitchenette so that we can eat some of our meals there. I shop for groceries once we arrive. This ensures I don’t over pack with food, and we save money to allocate having more fun elsewhere.
6. Free Breakfast – Look for hotels that offer free continental breakfast with your stay. This is always a plus when my family travels. We wake up early enough to make it to breakfast, and the kids usually love the Belgium waffles with fruit that most hotels have on the menu.
7. Laundry Facility – When I travel, I always look for accommodations that offer a washer and dryer in the room or a laundry facility. This is especially important if you are on a beach vacation. After being in the ocean, your clothes will have sand and salt all over them. Plus children can find ways to make messes, so it’s best to have easy access to a laundry room.
8. First Aid Kit – Always pack your own first aid kit. Make sure to have all emergency medications your family need, plus bandages and ointments. It’s better to be prepared and safe!
9. Toys and Books – Pack a few crayons and coloring books, along with a few simple toys and games to keep your kids occupied. If you’re traveling by car or air, they all come in handy to make the time go by without much boredom.
10. Keep A Loose Schedule – Don’t tightly schedule seeing attractions and activities on your vacation. Vacations are a lot of fun, but everyone gets tired and will need some down time just for relaxing. You may spend longer than you think at a museum or on the beach. Keep your family schedule loose for spontaneity and any of the unexpected things that may happen.
Remember that family vacations are all about having fun and making memories with the people you love the most! I hope these ten tips are helpful when you plan your upcoming family travel!
Is there anything you would add to the list? What are your family travel plans for this summer?
