Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Atlanta Ticket Giveaway
Last year was my first time attending an Alvin Ailey show. I’ve heard so many amazing things about Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and I knew I wanted to experience the show with my daughter. We went on a Saturday afternoon and we were mesmerized by the movement and the emotions that welled up inside of us by watching the dancers. It was so inspiring to see an all African American dance theater and share that moment with my child. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is headed back to Atlanta again, just in time for Valentine’s Day, February 14th-18th at the fabulous Fox Theatre!
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater inspires in all a universal celebration of the human spirit using the African-American cultural experience and the American modern dance tradition. Nearly 60 years after its founding, Ailey continues to move forward under the leadership of Artistic Director Robert Battle, demonstrating why Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of the world’s most beloved dance companies.
Alvin Ailey choreographed his signature solo Cry in 1971 as a gift for his dignified mother, Lula Cooper, and created the dance on his stunning muse, Judith Jamison. Mr. Aileydedicated the ballet “to all black women everywhere–especially our mothers.” In this three-part solo the dancer, clad in a white leotard and long ruffled skirt, brings the audience on a journey from bitter sorrow, through brutal hardship, to ecstatic joy. The New York Times called it “probably the closest dance has ever come to a shout – or cry – of pure anger, pain and exultation.”
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will be in Atlanta for one week only, from February 14th – 18th. Tickets can be purchased HERE at foxtheatre.org. If you’re interested in seeing the show with your family, be sure to check out the family matinee on Saturday, February 17th at 2pm! It’s a great time for parents to share the joy of dance with their children and a time to introduce young people to Ailey and teach them about the Company’s important role in American culture. Directly following the show there will be a FREE Q&A session with some of the dancers giving the audience the opportunity to learn more about the life of a dancer and what it takes to become a member of Ailey.
**The Saturday Matinee tickets are buy one regular price ticket and get a second ticket for 50% off!**
The uplifting finale will be Alvin Ailey’s must-see masterpiece Revelations, which been seen by more audiences around the world than any other modern work. Since its creation in 1960, Revelations has inspired generations through its powerful storytelling and soul-stirring spirituals. Springing from Ailey’s childhood memories of growing up in the south and attending services at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Texas, Revelations pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the African-American and explores the emotional spectrum of the human condition.
