A Day In The Life of MommyWeek
I had been planning to share this post for quite some time now. I wanted to give my readers a peek into what my day usually looks like. I like to call my life a type of organized chaos. Even though sometimes it’s not really so organized. Are you ready?!
- 6:30am – I’m up before my children to spend time with myself. I use this time to gather my bearings, plan out the day, pray, and reflect. It’s my quiet time of peace. If I don’t have it, I don’t have a smooth day.
- 7:30am – I’m scrolling Instagram, Facebook, & Twitter. I take a quick peek before the day really gets going.
- 8:00am – Picking up things around the house before the kids wake up.
- 8:30am – My kids are awake and it’s time to make breakfast. Sometimes it’s simple like oatmeal and berries, other days it’s Challah French Toast. Every morning my husband and I spend an hour or so having breakfast together and coffee without the kids. We are talking about the day, life plans, work, etc. The kids eat breakfast together.
- 9:15am – Washing dishes. Not glamorous, but someone has to do it.
- 9:30am – Homeschool! My kids pull out their school books and it’s time for a few lessons.
- 10:00am – While the oldest kids are doing independent work, I slip in some social shares for blogging.
- 10:30am – I’m sending and returning emails and making phone calls.
- 11:00am – I drop a load of laundry in the washer. I normally do laundry 3-4 times a week.
- 11:15am – I’m looking over school work and helping as needed.
- 12:00pm – The kids are taking a break and having something for lunch. It’s nice to have an 8 year old that can make sandwiches for everyone.
- 12:30pm – I’m editing photos and creating new blog posts.
- 1:00pm – I’m headed out to the grocery store while the kids stay home with my husband who also works from home. He instructs homeschool Science and Math. I grocery shop once a week.
- 2:00pm – I’m back home putting away the groceries.
- 2:30pm – The kids play outside. Some days we head to a local playground.
- 3:00pm – While the kids are playing I’m responding to emails and am on social media.
- 4:00pm – Mandatory quiet time for the kids. They usually read books until dinner time.
- 4:15pm – My husband and I take a break from work and talk about the progression of the day.
- 5:00pm – I get dinner started. Some days it’s something simple like a casserole or sometimes it’s something more complex like etouffee.
- 6:30pm – We eat dinner together as a family.
- 7:30pm – More dish washing.
- 8:00pm – The kids bath time.
- 8:45pm – It’s time to play a game with the kids before bed. We play either the guessing game, the quiet game, or sock puppets. Sometimes we tell stories too. The kids make up their own tales.
- 9:00pm – The kids are in bed.
- 9:15pm – BabyCake is asking to come sleep in my bed.
- 9:30pm – I’m cleaning the house……again……..
- 10:00pm – I normally have some time to myself. I read a magazine, have some coffee. Yes I drink coffee at 10pm! Shower, do a facial, watch some reality trash online. (We don’t own a TV and haven’t had one in at least 6 years)
- 11:00pm – I do more blogging. Schedule a post for the next day, more social media. I take a peak at my calendar to check for deadlines and plans.
- 12:00am – It’s time for sleep!
Then I get up and do it all again the next day! This is typically what one of my Monday’s or Tuesday’s look like. This doesn’t include the homeschool field trips that we take, or blogging events that I go to. It also doesn’t include the time I take to prepare for the new classes I started over at AshleyMarshallSeward.com. Some nights I’m up until 2 or 3am if I have a deadline to meet. How do I do it all? I don’t know! The love for my family keeps me going. <3

October 27, 2014 at 12:27 pmSo glad I’m not the only one who calls it “reality trash”,lol. I also catch it online since I don’t have cable. It’s how I decompress! Thanks for sharing your day!

I literally laughed out loud at your 9:15pm activity 😉

October 27, 2014 at 1:33 pmHaha, Vashti! Somebody has to feed them 🙂 I despise dish washing and sometimes it’s the story of my life!

October 27, 2014 at 1:28 pmThe life of a mom right! It’s life. Your family is blessed.
I love that you and the hubby have breakfast together and the kids have it with each other.
Ashley
October 27, 2014 at 1:34 pmBernetta, I know you can relate! We make the kids respect that time that we spend alone. We spend most of the day together and need to keep boundaries in place.

October 27, 2014 at 1:59 pmNow that’s what I call productive! I LOVE that you give yourself alone time each day! I also enjoy my weekly dose or reality tv trash, lol!
Ashley
October 27, 2014 at 4:17 pmThanks, Sherelle! I have to have that time to myself or things can get overwhelming. That reality trash is so addictive! Lol

October 27, 2014 at 2:42 pmI said this to you last week and I am saying it again: if I had a mustard seed of your energy!
You inspire me Ashley. I love the alone time you have with yourself and with your hubs. I have been working on that with the hubs. Insomnia is helping which is crazy but you can find us chatting and laughing (mostly at his sleepy jibberish) at the 2-3 AM hour.
You rock this thing called motherhood and mompreneur hood!
Ashley
October 27, 2014 at 11:15 pmThanks, MJ! That sleepy jibberish talk is the best, lol!

October 27, 2014 at 3:31 pmWow, Ashley! I really admire the way you’ve made time for yourself and for your husband. You seem to get so many meaningful things done in a day.
Can you figure out a schedule for a mom of two toddlers who wakes up at 5,works outside the home and has an hour and a half commute (not that that’s me or anything).
Ashley
October 27, 2014 at 11:17 pmWow, Tiffani, that commute is long! I commend you for doing it everyday. I wouldn’t be able to do it all without my lists, calendars and mostly support from my husband to work together 🙂

October 27, 2014 at 11:18 pmIt is fulfilling, Reginia. I love having this job 🙂 I’m about to sip a cup of coffee right now at 11pm.

October 27, 2014 at 6:18 pmI always wonder how WAHM who homeschool juggle the two. It’s nice that you and your hubby are such an awesome team. But coffee at 9:15pm? lol
Ashley
October 27, 2014 at 11:22 pmI multitask a lot, Adanna. I’m really grateful that my husband and I support one another in what we do 🙂 And yes, I need my coffee!

October 28, 2014 at 10:51 pmGlad to know I’m not the one that is continuously cleaning! I feel like I clean the kitchen at least 3 times a day. Having a husband that works at home really helps. It’s helpful to be able to run out during the day knowing the children are taken care of.

December 26, 2014 at 5:50 pmI agree with Keyonda, you’re a super mom! 🙂 I’ve been thinking about home schooling for years. I need to develop more self discipline though. Beautiful family & blog btw!
