Why I Don’t Want Anything for Mother’s Day
Many people have asked “What do you want for Mother’s Day?” The answer is simple…..nothing. I have everything I need. Since the late part of last year I have been reflecting on gratitude and truly being grateful for what I’ve been blessed with. So I don’t want anything. It suits me just fine to spend a beautiful day with my family, relaxing, or enjoying peace and quiet doing nothing. Having everything you need doesn’t mean perfection, because life is never perfect, but it means contentment.
When you love what you have, you have everything you need.
I have children who are old enough to cook and clean now. I put in my time as a mother, many years of primarily being the sole cleaner of my home. Now they are all old enough to assist in the cleaning process. Mommy is not the only one to clean now, and it’s given me more time to focus on other things that I enjoy. My children also cook simple meals so that I don’t always have to cook. I’m just fine with eating my son’s fried rice so that I don’t have to get in the kitchen a few times a week. I also get to sleep when I like because they are all old enough to make themselves breakfast when necessary. I’ve laid down the foundation in the previous years for these independent children, so now I’m grateful that as a Mommy I get a break to breathe.
Mother’s Day is a beautiful time to celebrate us. Mother’s everywhere, even those of you who have yet to carry a child full term due to infertility. You are still a mom. Whatever you want for Mother’s Day, you should have it. Slowing down and reflecting on life has made me appreciate all of the little things, because those little things actually turn out to be really big. Life is short, and I know it’s cliche to say, but cherish these memories and the moments you have right now. If you’re overly busy, free up your schedule. Delegate some things out to others. Actually take the time to enjoy life and all of its blessings, we only get one of them.
